FAQ

What is a Recommendation Report?
A Recommendation Report lists the possible energy efficiency improvements that can be made to a property and how many points each individual measure improves the current rating. This allows building owners to find the most effective and cost efficient improvements to focus on. This is especially useful for those property owners, landlords, estate agents and developers who are looking to achieve certain ratings or are at the early stages of refurbishing the property and are looking at which works to focus on.

How is a Recommendation Report carried out?
A site-visit of the property is required for a Recommendation Report to gather the current data of a property e.g. size, current heating, glazing type etc. If we have previously done a Domestic or Commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for the building we should be able to use this data for the Recommendation Report. The inspection allows us to create a Draft EPC of the current property, which gives the current energy efficiency rating. This data allows us to work out the possible energy efficiency improvements that can be made and how effective they are. After you have received the Recomendation Report you are welcome to come back with any follow up questions that come up during the works to the building and we can check the software for anything specific e.g. chosen boiler models fitted.

What are the MEES regulations and what does it stand for?
MEES stands for the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards and are regulations that apply to privately rented domestic and commercial properties. Currently, these properties need to meet an E rating or above on a valid (non-expired) EPC, however the government has proposals to increase this to a C rating in the future. This applies to properties with new tenancies as well as existing tenancies. A Recommendation Report is a way to future-proof the property from further legislation or to help indicate how to improve the rating for those properties that currently fall below the current standards.
